Before going live with your mobile affiliate campaigns, you should conduct some research about your target audience so you have a good idea of the type of traffic going to be receiving.
First, you should get on Wikipedia and look at the mobile operator subscriber base in your target country.
Since we know the conversion flow on mobile offers can change based on network operator, you’re going to want to see an estimate how many subscribers they have.
Depending on your traffic source, their operator targeting may not be completely accurate. By understanding the overall operator market share, you can make pretty good assumptions on how many will see the best converting flow.
Second, you should use free tools such as Stat Counter to see the most popular device operating systems.
While their data isn’t 100% accurate it at least gives you an idea of what type of volume you can expect from your campaigns.
In most countries, Android is going to be dominate followed by iOS, but some just developing countries may still use old Feature Phones. This type of data allows you to design pre-landers that will work according to this volume.
By simply conducting these two pieces of research, you can enter a country without adding expensive targeting at your traffic source, because you already have an idea of what the majority of the population uses.
While it seems simple, the majority of affiliates will miss this step and end up over-paying for the exact same traffic!
Hope this helps!
