How To Research A Country Before Launching Affiliate Offers

By July 15, 2016Research

Running affiliate campaigns you ALWAYS want to diversify.

I’ve said it many times over the years and I’ll continue to say it: I would rather have 10 campaigns doing $100/profit a day vs. 1 campaign doing $1,000 a day!

Multiple offers.  Multiple countries.  Multiple verticals.

That way, if something goes down, it doesn’t send you scrambling to find the next winner.

Even 10 campaigns at $30 a day profit is over $109,000 profit a year – a pretty nice income :).

Before launching in a country, I head over to Stat Counter and look at their OS data.  For example, if I’m looking to launch in Singapore:

StatCounter-os-SG-monthly-201506-201606

Not a huge surprise here, but Android dominates the market with iOS right behind it.  No need even worrying about Windows, feature phones, etc.

So when I go to launch I want to develop my pre-landers formatted for the most popular Android devices and iPhones; pretty straight forward.

Using this same data, I can run a report for most popular device vendor:

Once again, not a huge surprise, but it lets me know I only need to focus on Apple iPhones and Samsung Androids.  These are the devices that I want to test my pre-landers on to make sure they format correct and get my traffic out to the offer as quickly as possible.

Since I primarily promote mobile subscription offers that convert off successful carrier billing, I want to examine what network most people are using.  While Wikipedia isn’t the most updated data, it at least gives me an idea of what I’m going to be reaching:

As I said, super old data but we know that Singtel has the majority, so we want to make sure we have plenty of offers to cover that operator.

At RevMax, we have Sweepstakes and Security offers for Singapore.  Therefore, I’m going to map out my campaign like this:

If my traffic source doesn’t allow an under-pop, I’ll sometimes split test by putting an Antivirus banner on page 2 (or later in my funnel).

I’ll “warm” my traffic up by sending down an old fashioned survey funnel.  Stupid easy questions like:

*How Many Hours A Day Do You Use Your Phone?

* Do You Use Your Camera?

* Do You Text?

etc… Simple stuff that’s going to engage them to get them down to the sweepstakes offers.

I look at my funnel like giving someone an appetizer before dinner.  You want to warm up their appetite just enough so when the main course comes, they want to eat it all!  Same theory here!

I’m also going to split test the living crap out of every single variable (tracking with iMobiTrax).  I’ll have one version that has different colors, then other with different questions.

Now when I go to setup at my traffic source, I’m going to attempt to just get Singapore traffic without any further targeting.  Since I did my research, I know the majority of traffic is going to come from Androids / iOS and Singtel.  Depending on my eCPM I may have to adjust to get some volume, but that’ll at least get me started.

I’m then off to the races!  As I covered yesterday, the best hours are 5:00 pm. and after with Thursdays starting to be the best day.

Especially heading into the weekend, you want to look at testing many new potential winners.

Doing research like this is fast, easy, and free but gives you an immediate competitive advantage over those that are going in blindly.  Seems like common sense but you’d be surprised the number of affiliates that don’t do this!
